Li Mingzhe, or Lee Ming-che, a former staff member of Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), is under investigation on the Chinese mainland on suspicion of endangering national security, according to the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council(TAOSC).

Earlier reports say that Lee disappeared after entering south China's Guangdong Province from Macao. In response, Ma Xiaoguang, a spokesperson of the TAOSC, said that Lee is under investigation and is in good health.

Ma made the remarks while answering questions about Lee at a press conference held on March 29th, 2017.

The spokesperson said the rights and interests of those Taiwan residents who come to the Chinese mainland for reasonable businesses are all protected. The Chinese mainland will not restrict the freedom of Taiwan compatriots at will, said Ma.

The investigation into Lee will be made in accordance with judicial procedures, added Ma.
