Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks when presiding over a symposium on poverty relief Friday in northern China's Shanxi Province.

It must be ensured that areas and people stricken by extreme poverty enter a "moderately prosperous society" along with the rest of the nation, Xi said.
