China's top legislator Zhang Dejiang met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas here on Thursday, pledging to strengthen bilateral relations.

China supports the Palestinian people'a pursuit of legitimate national rights and appreciates Palestine's support on issues of China's major interests, Zhang said.

China will work with Palestine to implement the consensus reached between the two heads of state and advance bilateral friendly cooperation, Zhang said.

China's National People's Congress (NPC) will have more exchanges with the Palestine side to enhance the mutual understanding and friendship of the people, said Zhang, chairman of the Standing Committee of the NPC.

Abbas thanked China's support to Palestine, saying Palestine will increase the friendly exchanges and cooperation with China.
