Li Zhanshu was elected chairman of the 13th National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee on Saturday morning at the ongoing annual session of China's national legislature.

Li is a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.

Nearly 3,000 lawmakers also elected 14 vice chairpersons and the secretary general of the NPC Standing Committee.
