Lu Kang, spokesperson from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, made the remarks one day after US President Donald Trump called off his scheduled meeting with DPRK leader Kim Jong Un.

"We believe that the DPRK and US summit will promote the denuclearization of the peninsula and we hope they can cherish the progress and demonstrate good will and continue to promote denuclearization and decrease the concerns from both sides,” said Lu.

Lu added that China welcomes DPRK’s announcement that it dismantled its nuclear test site, calling it a meaningful first step toward complete denuclearization.

The DPRK said it blew up tunnels at the site on Thursday. The scene was witnessed by journalists from China, Russia, the US, Britain and Republic of Korea.
