Chinese state councilor says China supports multilateralism

Wang made the remarks at a breakfast meeting held between foreign ministers of the permanent members of the UN Security Council and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on the sidelines of the high-level week of the United Nations General Assembly.

The top Chinese diplomat said that the UN Security Council, especially its permanent members, shoulders great responsibilities in maintaining international peace and security.

He said the five permanent members of the UN Security Council should implement their consistent policies, abide by UN Charter and international agreements, strengthen coordination and communication, and promote unity and cooperation, so as to live up to the expectations of the international community.

Foreign ministers of the five permanent members and Guterres exchanged views on issues of common concern, including the Korean Peninsula, the Syrian crisis and the Iranian nuclear deal.
