The mission of CPC members
Today marks the 98th birthday of the Communist Party of China. In up to 100 years, the CPC has developed from a small party of only dozens of people to the world's largest party with a membership exceeding 90 million.
In the autumn of 2017, the top leadership of the CPC came to Shanghai and Jiaxing of Zhejiang Province to reminisce about the history of the party. While visiting the site of the first CPC National Congress held in Shanghai in 1921, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, called on all members to "remain true to our original aspiration and keep our mission firmly in mind."

In the work report he delivered at the 19th CPC National Congress in 2017, Xi expounded on the Party's mission. He said "The original aspiration and the mission of Chinese Communists is to seek happiness for the Chinese people and rejuvenation for the Chinese nation. This original aspiration, this mission, is what inspires Chinese Communists to advance. In our Party, each and every one of us must always breathe the same breath as the people, share the same future, and stay truly connected to them."
Xi Jinping has always regarded himself as an "assistant to the people." During an interview with Russian journalists in early 2014, Xi said "The people have entrusted me to the post as a state leader, and I will always hold them the dearest in my heart."
When he was re-elected president in 2018, Xi Jinping stated that we must learn from the people, listen to their voices, take people's satisfaction as the basic standard for our performance, and make strenuous efforts to solve issues the people care about the most."

A people-centered approach is the principle that guides Xi Jinping's philosophy of governance. He has launched a series of reform policies to reduce poverty and made inspection tours in many parts of China. Last year, he came to talk with villagers of Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, and discussed with local poverty-alleviation officials on how to help villagers lead a better life.
The CPC strives not only for the well-being of Chinese people, but also for human progress, said Xi Jinping at the CPC in Dialogue with World Political Parties High-Level Meeting in 2017. Xi said the CPC will share experiences with other parties around the world and make joint efforts to build a global community with a shared future for mankind.
