Focusing on the campus life of young girls who live in northeast China, the film has been directed by Han Tian.

"When I was first tasked with bringing a popular novel to the big screen, I didn't confine myself to studying the novel over and over again, but went to northeast China to carry out a number of interviews with local people. Those conversations inspired me to create a script based on the original story," said Han. "Although it's about the girls of northeastern China, the movie will remind wider audiences of their youth."

The Past Roar Youth, starring young actress Bu Guanjin, known for her role in the 2016 romantic comedy Mr. Donkey, has been given a release date of August 25 this year.
