A new Japanese anime film released in China last Friday has just earned 40 million yuan in its first three days through its screenings across 6,000 theatres in China.

"Sword Art Online The Movie: Ordinal Scale" is based on the phenomenally popular light novel series by Kawahara Reki.

It's based around a mysterious next-gen online game "Ordinal Scale."

Director Itou Tomohiko and protagonist Kirito's voice actor, Matsuoka Yoshitsugu, were in China to promote the film at a preview screening in Beijing on September 16, 2017.
