Yunyang County in Chongqing to build Jurassic dinosaur theme park

Yunyang, a county situated in the northeast of Chongqing municipality, has recently pledged to build a Jurassic dinosaur theme park to exhibit its range of dinosaur fossil discoveries.

According to Qin Changde，head of Yunyang County, the aim is to recreate a scene from the Jurassic period within the park in order to stimulate interest and create public awareness on the importance of environmental protection and scientific research on fossils.

Qin was talking in Beijing where he recently attended an event to create awareness, promote conservation and show appreciation for our scientific heritage held at Peking University- during which some 200 pieces of rare dinosaur specimens were also exhibited for the first time.

Meanwhile，local authorities have launched a global bidding process, with an aim to recruit a global team of top planners and paleontologists in the construction of the theme park.

In addition, Yunyang is inviting fossil experts to give talks as well as introduce progress made from the discovery, research value and achievements of local dinosaur fossils.

The site will be located in Pu'an Town, Yunyang County, where in early 2015, local residents claimed to have discovered suspected dinosaur fossils.
