An animation that combines both classic Chinese and western cultures, called "Monkey King Reloaded" is due out in Chinese theatres starting from this Saturday.

Hong Kong-based pop-star Leon Lai Ming is the producer.

The film is about a zoo monkey in Sichuan that travels to New York City to rescue a human friend from a trio of nefarious kidnappers. With the help of a Pig, he learns to channel the power of the Monkey King to defeat the villains.

The film will be released in both Chinese and English-language versions. Earlier, "Monkey King Reloaded" was released in South Korea.
