This year's China Children's Theater Festival kicked off over the weekend in Beijing, with Magic Moon Grass opening the show.

The play focuses on a lazy and greedy boy who dreams to live a wealthy and happy life by gaining the magic moon grass.

The backdrop design draws on the aesthetic values of traditional Chinese paintings.

Following Magic Moon Grass, over 60 children's plays will be staged during the 43-day festival.

Also during the festival, the 90-member International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People is to host its artistic gathering in Beijing in August, the first time for the association to arrange such an event in China since its establishment in 1965.
