A drama about the first Chinse children to study in the United States will be staged in Beijing.

Thirty children were sent to the US in 1872 during the late Qing Dynasty.

Fujian People's Arts Theatre is staging "The First Child Students from China" on Tuesday and Wednesday. It tells how these young students hoped to use what they'd learnt to contribute to building a new nation.

The theatre hopes to enable the young audience members to understand that the quality of its youth determines the kind of future a nation will have.

Adapted from Lin Chao's cartoons of the same name, "The First Child Students from China" was broadcast in the form of a 52-episode TV drama series.
