Over 20 ice-skating medalists at the Olympics, World Championship and other international events are now bringing the citizens in Beijing a "Swan Lake on Ice" show, accompanied by Tchaikovsky's music.

These medalists are now employed by the "Imperial Ice Stars", a U.K. ballet dance troupe aiming to bring to life a new style of "Theatre on Ice".

Tony Mercer, founder of the troupe, also serves as the producer and artistic director of the two-act ballet dance performance.

"We spent eight weeks rehearsing the show. This is actually real ice on the theatre stage. People are always used to watch ice shows in a big arena. So therefore the idea behind the show was to put onto the stage in a so lovely theatre. We've got snow. There're lots of theatrical effects which suit the storyline. I just think people will be amazed."

Mercer says they used15 tons of ice to make the stage at the Grand Theatre of Beijing Tianqiao Performing Arts Center, which is due to stage the show from Wednesday till Sunday.

To date, "Swan Lake on Ice" has toured five continents, playing to more than 1.5 million people.
