A pair of highly anticipated comedies will open in cinemas across China on Sunday ahead of the week-long National Day holiday.

"Fat Buddies" tells the story of two large men who team up to take over an investigation of a drug smuggling case, leading to a series of hilarious incidents. Comedy stars Bao Bei'er and Wen Zhang play the leading duo.

At a recent promotional event in Beijing, Bao said he and Wen had to spend a couple of hours every day having heavy makeup applied, and climbing into specially-designed costumes that made them look fat.

The other major film due for release over the holidays, "Hello Mrs. Money", is the latest adaption by China's first comedy stage play company "Fun Age Entertainment".
