A film named 'Hope of Road' depicting the poverty-alleviation process in one of China's most impoverished regions premiered in Beijing Thursday afternoon.
Dong Ling is the film director.
"This year marks the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening up. In simple words, the film tells a story that took place in the reform process and is about struggles against poverty in Xihaigu, Ningxia region. The film starts from the moving of locals out of drought-hit mountainous areas to a newly-established village called Minning(闽宁村) in 1997. And twenty years later, the average household income in Minning becomes twenty-times of that in two decades ago."
According to the United Nations, Xihaigu prefecture, located in Ningxia Hui autonomous region, is one of the world's least habitable areas for human beings.
'Hope of Road', which is hitting theatres now, is among several domestic films introduced by Huaxia Film to mark the reform and opening up initiative.
