Well-known film-makers from both home and abroad have descended on the Chinese capital for the 9th Beijing International Film Festival.

The festival's Tiantan Award has attracted 775 entries from a diverse range of categories and styles. Fifteen films have been selected to compete in 10 award categories in the final round of the competition.

For more on this, CRI's Wu Yifan caught up with Sidney Ganis, the vice president on the Board of Governors for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, to talk about the prominence of the Beijing International Film Festival in the movie industry, and the selection criteria for films in the running for an Oscar.
