China's Huang Xiaohui finally won the title with 305.7 points, edging her teammate Chang Yani by 2.4 points. Russian diver Kristina Ilinykh took the bronze.

Huang said she was delighted to win the tough event. She also praised the other two medalists, who put her on edge throughout the whole competition.

"I was quite nervous in the first two attempts," Huang said after the competition, "I told myself to slow down. My teammate Chang and the Russian athlete had wonderful performances, especially Chang. Every detail of her each round was better than mine. Our coach would actually let us learn her moves in everyday training."

Although she failed to claim the gold medal, Ilinykh won the spectators over with her challenge to the top Chinese divers.
