An explosion happened in front of Thailand's National Theatre on Monday evening, leaving two Thai women slightly injured, Thai media reported.

The two women were hit in their arms and were being treated in a local hospital.

The explosion, taking place at about 8:30 p.m. local time, seemed to be a pipe bomb. Police and an explosive ordnance disposal unit were investigating the scene.

According to Thai media Matichon, someone was seen throwing something into a tree in front of the National Theatre.

It was the second explosion near Bangkok's most important public square Sanam Luang this year, following a ping pong bomb explosion that hit the former Government Lottery Office building in early April, leaving two sanitation workers injured.
