If you're not English, and want to visit something quintessentially English, you should go to a county or regional show.

At these annual events, which are held around the country, you'll find awards, competitions, displays, delicacies, demonstrations, and a surprising amount of fun.

I mention all this because at this year's Royal Norfolk Show, there was talk of China. Surely, if anything demonstrates the growing importance of business and cultural ties between Britain and China, this must be it?

According to local newspaper Norwich Evening News, Clarke Willis MBE, was given a prize at the Show for his services to agricultural and rural communities in East Anglia.

He told the paper:

“Although I have retired I won’t be sitting at home doing nothing and plan to help East Anglia food and drinks businesses export to China. There is a real hunger from that country for quality English food and drink projects.”

This is not the first time that Mr. Willis has spoken fondly of China, and his words echo the desire of the region to have a strong relationship with China.

In April, we reported that Mr. Willis is the non-executive chairman of a group called LinksEast. It has the mission statement of 'Bridging the gap between China and East Anglia.'

We'd thoroughly recommend a visit to East Anglia if you're travelling to the UK - and we'll keep reporting as the relationship between the East of England and China continues to grow.
