Grand celebrations of Chinese Year of Dog held in Sweden

Grand celebrations have been held in Stockholm to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year of the Dog. The activities have been held by the Chinese embassy in Sweden, the East Asian Museum and the Chinese Federation in Sweden.

Gui Congyou, Chinese Ambassador to Sweden, said the Year of the Dog symbolized wisdom and loyalty, as well as the good and stable relations between China and Sweden.

Dragon and lion dances, Tibetan dance and paper folding, calligraphy and tea skills have been shown both outside and inside the East Asian Museum in Sweden.

On February 14,  Ambassador Gui invited the overseas Chinese and  Chinese representatives in Sweden to celebrate the Chinese New Year in the Grand Hotel.

He said when China and Sweden established diplomatic relations in 1950, Spring Festival was celebrated here and that it was again celebrated here today. “It symbolized that we shall not forget our mission and will continue to try our best to push forward Sino-Swedish relations into a new level, ” said Gui.

Artists from Liaoning Singing and Dancing Troupe performed folk songs and dances, which were met with warm applause from the audience.

Earlier, another grand celebration was also held in Eskilstuna on February 10th. Representatives from Linköping, Malmo and Gothenburg were also present at that event.

More than 1,000 people have participated in the celebration activities across Sweden over the past week. Overseas Chinese here said they really feel the great changes that have been taking place in China and felt glad that China is getting prosperous.
