2 people die in plane crash in Serbia

A man and a woman lost their lives when an ultra-light airplane crashed in the vicinity of a small airport in outskirts of the capital city on Wednesday evening, public broadcaster RTS reported. 

According to the report, the aircraft crashed in Zemun Polje, in the northern outskirts of Belgrade. 

The plane, an ultra-light Zenair CH 601, crashed some 50 meters from the runway, just 70 meters from the Belgrade-Novi Sad railway that runs parallel to it. 

According to local media, the two victims had rented the plane to go panoramic sightseeing.

The identities of the victims have yet to be revealed, but RTS reported that the one of them was a flight instructor, and the other was his female companion.

Authorities do not yet know the possible cause of the crash. An investigation is ongoing.
