6.4-magnitude earthquake strikes southern Philippines

A 6.4-magnitude earthquake shook Davao Oriental province in the southern Philippines on Saturday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said in an updated bulletin.

So far no serious damages have been reported.

Phivolcs said the quake, which struck at 3:16 p.m. local time, hit at a depth of 14 kilometers, about 27 km southeast of town Manay.

Phivolcs said the tremor, which was tectonic in origin, can cause damage and aftershocks can rattle the province.

The quake was also felt in the southern Philippine city of Davao, and some other cities in nearby provinces, according to the institute.
