Canoe capsizes in Vietnam, killing 2

A canoe carrying 22 people including 21 Chinese citizens capsized on Wednesday in Nha Trang Bay, Vietnam's central Khanh Hoa province, killing a Chinese tourist and the Vietnamese tour guide, seriously injuring another Chinese, according to the Chinese Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City.

All other Chinese citizens have been rescued. The injured Chinese is now under treatment in the province's Nha Trang city.

After receiving news about the accident, the Chinese embassy in Vietnam and the Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City immediately launched an emergency response mechanism, requiring local relevant agencies to rescue and treat victims and enable the consular staff to rush to the scene.

Two women died in the accident, including the 30-year-old Chinese tourist and a 25-year-old Vietnamese tour guide, Vietnam News Agency reported. The injured Chinese citizen, who is now in a coma in Vinmec Nha Trang Hospital, is a four-year-old boy.

Local agencies are investigating the incident.
