     Mōdǐ

【解释】 To find out what someone thinks about someone or something. This does not involve touching anyone.

【例句】

- We need to feel out the landlord before asking him to lower the rent.

 在要求降低房租之前，我们先要摸清房东的底。

 Zài yāoqiú xiáng dī fángdōng zhīqián, wǒmen xiān yào mō qīng fángdōng de dǐ.

- Ross wanted to feel out his boss before asking for a raise.

 罗斯想在跟老板要求涨工资前先摸清底线。

 Luósī xiǎng zài gēn lǎobǎn yāoqiú zhǎng gōngzī qián xiān mō qīng dǐxiàn.
