7岁女孩减肥 Little girl seeks treatment for obesity

7-year-old, 75 kg (165 lb.) little girl seeks treatment(治疗) for obesity(肥胖) as she is loosing the ability(能力) to walk(走). And she cannot walk without help from others. Most of the time, she must use(使用) a wheelchair(轮椅).

Cases like these are becoming(变得) more common(普通), highlighting China's rising(增加) obesity rates. While the obesity rate for the whole country is at about 5%, according to the Word Health Organization (WHO), the rate is as high as 20% in some Chinese cities.

The girl, nicknamed(化名) "Xiao Yun" sits(坐) in a wheelchair while her mother looks on as nurses struggle to find a vein(静脉) to draw the girl's blood.

Her parents have tried controlling(控制) her diet(饮食) and have spent hundreds of thousands of yuan on various treatments, putting Xiao Yun's family into debt(负债).

Xiao Yun eats a carefully balanced lunch. 

Reportedly, Xiao Yun was like any normal girl until the age of about 4 when she began to rapidly and unexpectedly gain weight. Since that time, her family has tried many treatments.

It is reported that since becoming so obese, Xiao Yun's temper(脾气) has become irritable(易怒的).

Xiao Yun can only walk a few steps(步) before she must rest(休息).

Statistics from the Chinese Health Ministry have revealed(显示) that urban Chinese boys aged 6 are 2.5 inches taller and 6.6 pounds heavier(重) on average than Chinese city boys 30 years ago.

A leading child-health researcher, Ji Chengye, has stated that, "China has entered(进入) the era(时代) of obesity. The speed of growth is shocking."

The Chinese Nutrition Society is providing nutrition education and government intervention has pushed schools to promote more healthy lifestyles.

Xiao Yun is seen being lifted(抬) into a car, as she cannot climb(上) into the vehicle by herself. Currently, she is still undergoing physical therapy and treatments for her severe(严重的) obesity.
