Zhang Shiquan is the “king” of a monkey group with over 80 monkey members. He has been taking care of his fuzzy friends for 4 years. His biggest hope is to build a sustainable homeland for the monkeys.

Zhang Shiquan goes to the mountain valley three times(次) every day to feed(喂) his little fuzzy friends.

The 80 wild monkeys see him as the “king” in the group. They listen to his words(话), especially when there’s a fight going on in the group, Zhang is the one who helps resolve(解决) the conflict(争端).

These monkeys live(住) in the natural scenic spot of Longchi forest park, in Southwest China’s Sichuan province. Since 2004, the forest park has been suspended(暂停) for operation(营业) due to frequent mudslide and earthquake.

The shutdown(关门) of the park also means a loss(失去) of income(收入) to buy(买) feeds for the animals. Now Zhang spends(花费) almost half of his monthly salary, about 1,000 yuan, for the monkey feed each month.

He says if there’s no food provided for the monkeys, they would leave the valley and might harass(骚扰) villagers nearby(附近).
