河南面塑艺人捏出能吃的面人 Henan dough modeling finds success in modern age

Edible dough figurines have rejuvenated an aspect(方面) of traditional Chinese culture(文化) and won the intangible cultural heritage's successor a big fortune(财富).

Wei Honggang(魏红刚), an inheritor(传承人) of dough modeling in Central China's Henan province, has worked on improving(改进) the process(程序) and developing(开发) edible raw materials(原材料) in order to promote(促进) the traditional craftsmanship(传统手工艺). Kids in modern society, he said, "know Plasticine(橡皮泥), but have no knowledge of dough models and figurines".

Now the efforts(努力) from the 47-year-old craftsman have paid off(回报), bringing the craft to classrooms for tens of thousands of students. Due to the rarity of edible materials for dough modeling, unlike Plasticine, he also has numerous deals(订单) at home and abroad for dozens of tons of materials.
