广深港高铁香港段9月正式运营 New high-speed rail to link Hong Kong, mainland in September

The Hong Kong section(部分) of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link will begin operation(运营) On September 23, reports Hong Kong's Ta Kun Pao. 

The 26-kilometer section will connect Hong Kong with the high-speed rail network on the mainland. 

The Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong line will reduce(缩短) the time for a train journey from Beijing to Hong Kong by at least two-thirds to just 9 hours. 

Hong Kong's Chief Secretary Matthew Cheung is being quoted in an online article that the new railway line is expected to create(创造) thousands of jobs in Hong Kong. 

The new West Kowloon terminal station is expected to become a new(新的) cultural and tourism landmark(地标) for Hong Kong, Cheung said.
