中国首位女伞兵捐千万积蓄 China's first female paratrooper donates ￥10 million to hometown

China's first female paratrooper(女伞兵), Ma Xu(马旭), has donated 10 million yuan to promote education(教育) and public welfares(公益) in her hometown(家乡) county in Heilongjiang Province.

The donation(捐赠), which is Ma's entire(全部) savings(积蓄), is the biggest individual contribution the county has ever received.

Born in the Mulan County of Harbin city, 86-year-old Ma Xu is the first female paratrooper in China, and the oldest female paratrooper to have conducted a maiden jump – at the age of 30.

In her career(职业) spanning over two decades, Ma Xu had completed(完成) more than 140 jumps, the most among her peers ever.

In 1983, Ma Xu and her husband invented(发明) an inflatable pad to protect(保护) paratroopers from hurting their ankles(脚踝) during the landing process.

Before becoming a paratrooper, Ma had served as a surgeon(医生) in China's military forces. She had served in many wars(战争) including the Korean War.
