A Chinese pet(宠物 chǒngwù) food shop(食品店 shípǐn diàn) is paying(支付 zhīfù) some $1,500 a year to hire(招聘 zhāopìn) a cat(猫 māo) to sample(品尝 pǐncháng) its different range of canned cat food. After being selected by health(健康 jiànkāng) standards and taste(口味 kǒuwèi) preferences, an American Shorthair was chosen as the official "food sampler" of the shop and given free(免费的 miǎnfèi de) access to the shop's international brands(品牌 pǐnpái) of canned food(罐头食品 guàntóu shípǐn) including those made of deer meat from the US, tropical fruits from Thailand as well as crab and herring from Germany.
