Huawei has never and will not spy(监视 jiānshì) for the Chinese government, said Ren Zhengfei, founder of the tech giant, in a rare interview(采访 cǎifǎng) on Tuesday as his company undergoes continuous espionage(间谍活动 jiàndié huódòng) accusations(指控 zhǐkòng).

“No law requires any company in China to install mandatory back doors(后门 hòumén),” Ren said to The Wall Street Journal, “I personally would never harm the interest(利益 lìyì) of my customers, and me and my company would not answer to such request.”

According to Bloomberg, the 74-year-old entrepreneur also said there is no “close connection” between his personal political beliefs and the company's business.

“Huawei firmly stands on the side of customers when it comes to cyber security(网络安全 wǎngluò ānquán) and privacy(隐私 yǐnsī),” Ren said.

Although Huawei has long rejected security and privacy concerns from Western countries, it has suffered(承受 chéngshòu) from intensified pressure(压力 yālì) since the arrest(逮捕 dàibǔ) of Ren's daughter, Meng Wanzhou, in the Canadian city of Vancouver where she is a permanent resident, as well as the limits imposed on company in several countries.

But Ren is confident that Huawei's revenue(财政收入 cáizhèng shōurù) would continue growing to 125 billion U.S. dollars in 2019 from more than 100 billion U.S. dollars in 2018, according to Bloomberg.

“Huawei is not a public company, we don't need a beautiful earnings report,” Ren said. “If they don't want Huawei to be in some markets, we can scale down a bit. As long as we can survive and feed our employees, there's a future for us.”
