画蛇添足

Too Much Water Drowned the Miller

Chinese people use 画蛇添足 to illustrate the truth that going too far is as bad as not going far enough. It's similar to the English saying: Too much water drowned the miller.

Literal meaning:To draw a snake and add feet to it

Explanation: Going too far is as bad as not going far enough; too much water drowned the miller

E.g

在这篇文章里加上这句话其实没有任何加分效果,反而成了画蛇添足.

zài zhè piān wén zhāng lǐ jiā shàng zhè jù huà qí shí méi yǒu rèn hé jiā fèn xiào guǒ ,fǎn ér chéng le huà shé tiān zú .

Too much water drowned the miller, adding this sentence to the article, actually don't give any extra credit to the whole performance.
