Citizens visit Customs House on the Bund in Shanghai on an open day to celebrate its 90th birthday on December 23, 2017. Visitors got a close-up view of “the No. 1 clock tower in Asia.” The clock tower offers views over the Bund and the Shanghai city center. Each of the clock’s four faces is made up of more than 100 pieces of glass, between 0.3 and 1 meter in size. Each face is 5.3 meters wide, and lit with 72 automatic lamps. The clock and bell mechanisms were built according to the design of Big Ben at the Palace of Westminster. The classic British tune Westminster Quarters has been played by the four bells in the tower at every quarter hour since January 1, 1928. [Photo: Chinanews.com/VCG]
