Cherry blossom tourism in Guizhou helps village overcome poverty

A cherry blossom of 20 square kilometers (7.7 square miles) in Dafang County, a mountain village in Guizhou Province, Southwest China has attracted lots of visitors. With a humid subtropical monsoon climate, the county welcomes the spring earlier than most parts of China. The once impoverished mountain village started an agricultural production structure adjustment in 2008. Villagers stated to grow cherry trees instead of crops and vegetables. As a result, the tourism from the spring cherry blossom season and the autumn fruit harvest help local people overcome poverty. [Photo: VCG]
