Female role models in China win '2017 Women's Media Awards'

UN Women China and its media partner Netease have jointly awarded "2017 Women's Media Awards" to a dozen Chinese women who have made notable contributions to their respective industries.

Among the winners are celebrities, a village official, an Olympic champion and a scientist.

Ten women claimed the title of "Female Model of the Year", including Gong Linna, considered founder of a new Chinese art music; Hui Ruoqi, a volleyball player and Olympic champion; Yan Jinxiu, a world-class tunnel expert; Xu Anhua, a famous female film director; He Qiaonv, the first Chinese female philanthropist and Wang Jinchu, a village official.

Xi Mengyao, a rising international supermodel, won the title of "Breakthrough Woman of the Year" and Wu Mochou, a young singer, became the "Female Bold of Change Model of the Year".

The "Women's Media Award" began in 2011. It aims to promote equal opportunities for women in all sectors by honoring outstanding female role models in China.
