The German city of Duisburg, which boasts the world's largest inland port, has closer and closer ties to China thanks to cross-continental rail routes, like the one that starts in the city of Wuhan in central China.

On the way to China (V): Lodz, Poland

Poland is a major transportation hub in Europe. Freight from European countries such as Britain, Germany, and Italy is usually transferred onto China-bound trains in Lodz, which is the third-largest city in Poland. 

On the Way to China (IV): Alashankou, China

In 2011, the China-Europe rail freight service went into operation.

On the Way to China (III): Chongqing, China

The China-Europe rail freight service has helped to connect China with Europe's freight capitals, and in doing so encouraged trade along a route that stretches from Duisburg in western Germany to Chongqing. 

On the Way to China (II): London, Britain

​In 2011, the China-Europe freight train service went into operation. The China-Britain Freight Train service is one of the network's newest and longest routes.

On the Way to China (I): Mortara, Italy

The volume of goods making a train journey from Italy to China is expected to rise sharply as Italy has become the first G-7 country to sign on to the Belt and Road Initiative.
