New water-absorbing concrete to combat urban flooding
A video posted on the official Weibo account of the China Railway Construction Corporation shows CRCC staff testing a self-developed concrete in Laixiang, Jiangxi Province, July 8, 2017.
In the video, pavement made by CRCC's fast-draining concrete absorbs a bottle of water in less than a minute.
The water is absorbed through the concrete and filtered down into an underground reservoir through pre-laid pipes.
The concrete is being viewed as potential solution to combating drainage problems in many cities in China.
