In Sanya, any emergency call connected to tourists is directed to the Tourism Police Department. Beyond emergency responses, the TPD also acts as a liaison with other departments and government agencies if needed.

Sanya's police service was the first in China to set up a Tourism Police Department, with the exclusive portfolio of managing and maintaining tourism-related security and social order. It's now said that incidents involving forceful tour guides or ridiculously high-priced dining are now nowhere to be found in the southern city in Hainan. People in an emergency situation or the victim of other misconduct can call 12301 (the designated tourism emergency call number), and the TPD officer will arrive at the scene ASAP. To ensure international tourists feel safe and relaxed in Sanya, the TPD also offers services in English, Russian, Japanese and Korean.
