The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is an essential component of the Belt and Road Initiative. Often called a "game changer for Pakistan," CPEC is a framework for regional connectivity. China has invested in Pakistan in areas including energy, infrastructure, mass transit, special economic zones, and social sector development.

Several huge construction projects are underway. Others have already been completed and are playing their role in reshaping the future of Pakistan. One of them is the Sahiwal Power Project.

The Sahiwal Power Project is located in Sahiwal City, in the Punjab region of Pakistan. It was built by a consortium of China's state-owned China Huaneng Group and Shandong Ruyi at a cost of $ 1.6 billion U.S. dollars.

At its inauguration on July 3 last year, 1320MW of electricity was added to Pakistan's national grid. The power plant is playing a vital role in helping Pakistan to overcome its energy shortages, as well as providing employment opportunities to local young people.

Khalid Hussein is one of the young people who has benefited from the project. His well-paid job as a translator is even helping pay for his siblings to return to school.
