Roberta Lipson was born in the United States. She came to China in 1979, when the country was starting to reform and open up to the outside world. She was a founder of China's first private hospital, and the first person to bring an ultrasound machine to China to show to Chinese doctors. In recognition of the contribution she has made to the lives of Chinese people, she was awarded a green card by China’s government. Roberta believes that her success has been tied to China's policy of reform and opening up. Looking back on her four decades in China, Roberta said, "What's the most surprising change? The fact that everything has changed."
