Three Generations -- A Chinese Family in South Africa
Upon retirement, Ni and his wife came to visit their Johannesburg-based son, Jimmy, who moved to South Africa to sell computers 20 years earlier. The old couple first planned to stay for a short period of time. But they ended up living here for three years now, helping take care of their grandchildren. The old and young couples represent southern and northern China, which differ sharply in food choices. What they all like is Jiaozi. The two children prefer, however, prefer South African dishes cooked by a local house helper. An example of food fusion.
