Pilley worked as a psychology professor at Wofford College in Spartanburg and was interested in animal intelligence. Chaser was trained by Pilley in a special project. Chaser was considered the smartest dog with the largest tested memory of any non-human animal. She was able to identify and retrieve 1,022 toys by name. [Photo: IC]
