Queen Elizabeth II’s former protection officer Richard Griffin has an insider's story to share.

The Queen was taking a stroll in Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland in her very low-key tweeds and headscarf when she met a group of American tourists, Griffin told The Times.

The tourists failed to recognize her and asked if she lived in the area, to which the Queen replied that she did have a house nearby.

The unsuspecting tourists went on to ask whether she had ever met the Queen.

"No," she replied, before pointing at Griffin and saying "But this policeman has."

Griffin said the group moved on without knowing whom they had just spoken to.
