The world's longest commercial flight has safely landed in Sydney, Australia after flying 19 hours non-stop from New York.

Qantas Flight 7879 was carrying 50 passengers and crew but no cargo on a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, according to Reuters.

A report by cnet.com says the plane was loaded with 101,000 kilograms (222,900 pounds) of fuel to make the 16,200-kilometer (10,000-mile) journey.

The survey flight was part of Project Sunrise, Qanta's effort to push the limits of commercial flying, CBS News reported.

Qantas is hoping to connect New York and London in one go by 2023 if the Australian flag carrier gets regulatory approval.
