Beijing-Zhangjiakou inter-city railway will provide services for the upcoming Beijing Olympic Winter Games in 2022. By then, Domestic and international athletes, audiences and members of the media will be able to take this new line to travel back and forth between three venues across these two host cities.

According to CRRC Corporation Limited, to provide personalized services for the Winter Olympic Games, an exclusive carriage will be reserved for members of the media. The on-board WIFI installed on the train will assist the media in transmitting live broadcasts of the Olympic games and sending up-to-date reports of the latest news and events.

The construction of the Beijing-Zhangjiakou inter-city railway was started in April 2016 and is expected to reach completion by the end of 2019. With a length of 174 kilometers, the high speed train is the first ever railway service to support ballast trackbed and can reach a maximum speed of 350 kmh. Ballast trackbed is an important component of the railroad infrastructure; it acts as a support base for the railroad track structure, giving it strength and durability but also allowing for flexibility when trains pass over.

Once Beijing-Zhangjiakou inter-city railway is completed, it will help passengers travelling between Beijing and Zhangjiakou reach their destination within one hour, shortening their trip by approximately two and half hours.
