Beijing's new international airport is under construction. The airport is taking shape; the steel structure of its terminal buildings was completed on June 30th. It is expected to begin operation in 2019.

Beijing's new international airport is positioned as "a large-scale international transport hub", and its long-term goal will be to serve over 100 million travelers and help carry 4 million tons of goods annually. At the initial stage, the primary target of the new airport will be to serve 72 million travelers and deliver 2 million goods in 2025.

The new airport will help to develop Xiong'an New Region and help it coordinate with Beijing, Tianjin and Heibei. Xiong'an currently carries out Beijing's non-essential functional services in order to help the capital city focus on capital-oriented responsibilities.

The airport is 55 kilometers away from Xiong'an New Region. A press spokesman from the Beijing's new airport construction project, Zhu Wenxin, said that in order to provide a convenient commuting experience, they are working with the Xiong'an local government. They hope to plan a transport network that will connect the airport and central Xiong'an.

In order to make it more comfortable for travelers, the new international airport will use technology, including an anti-pollution exhaust system, an internet of things, cloud computing, and personal mobile intelligent terminal services.
The final name of Beijing's new international airport has not been decided yet.
