Koln-Beijing New Silk Road Rallye ends to celebrate anniversary of diplomatic relationships

November 1st saw the curtains come down on the Koln-Beijing New Silk Road Rally

2017 at the Beijing International Automobile Museum; marking the end of a long journey that was flagged off on September 14th in Koln.

The rally was organised to coincide with the 45th anniversary since diplomatic ties between China and Germany were established. It also marked 30 years since the union of sister-cities; Beijing and Koln.

"The successful completion of this event symbolizes the beginning of deep cooperation between China and Germany and closer cultural exchanges between Beijing and Koln. We hope in the future China and Germany can cooperate more in culture and sports", said an official Lv Hongwei from The Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Counties.

Participants from Germany, Switzerland, and Austria among other European countries drove 12 vintage cars from Germany to China, exploring natural scenic views and experiencing different cultures along the New Silk Road.

It was a journey that saw them drive 13,000 kilometers before finally arriving in Beijing.

Despite the exhausting trip, participants felt it was a journey worth taking as they collected precious memories along the way. Indeed Traveling along the ancient Silk Road gave them an unforgettable experience given the rich diverse cultures they encountered.

During their travel, 12 classic iconic cars were used and included the Jaguar E-Type produced in the 1960s, Mercedes-Benz produced in the 1970s, and Citroen produced in the 1980s.

The event was jointly organized by the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Cultural Exchange Association and Union, and the Beijing district government.
