According to newly released figures by the Beijing police in Chaoyang district, the social order in Beijing is getting better as citizens are assisting the police with combating crimes, indicating an improvement in social awareness among citizens in Beijing.

Beijing, despite being a mega-city, has a relatively low crime rate, which is due to - in some extent - to the participation of assisting the police with combating crimes by citizens.

New figures released by the Beijing Public Security Bureau shows there were over 140,000 public security volunteers in Chaoyang District in Beijing by the end of 2017, reports the Beijing News.

The term "Chaoyangqunzhong", or people living in Chaoyang District in Beijing, is a phrase known in many parts of China as code for righteous citizens, or public security volunteers.

Police in Beijing estimate there are around 300 public security volunteers in every square kilometer in Chaoyang District.

It is estimated there were over 8,300 effective tip-offs provided by public security volunteers in Chaoyang District in Beijing.

In particular, "Chaoyangqunzhong" provided information leading to the arrest of Jaycee Chan, son of international movie star Jackie Chan. Jaycee was charged with 'the crime of sheltering others to take drugs' in December 2014.

Over the years, Beijing's public security volunteers have become such a force in the city that each district has been characterized with their own unique titles, including the "Haidian Netizens," the "Fengtai Advisory Group," the "Dongcheng Watchers," and the "Xicheng Dama."
