Consumer inflation in the Chinese capital of Beijing held generally steady in July according to the latest figures from the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Statistics.

Figures show Consumer Price Index, a main gauge of inflation, increased 1.7 percent year-on-year in July.

In month-on-month terms, the increase was 0.2 percent.

Looking at Beijing's CPI in July compared to June, food prices dropped 1.3 percent with fresh vegetables and pork prices leading the decline.

Fresh vegetable prices dropped 16.8 percent due to an oversupply of seasonal fruits such as watermelon and peaches.

Pork prices declined 0.7 percent as consumption fell during the hot summer temperatures.

Tourism, flight tickets, and accommodation costs have all seen an increase as the summer holiday season got into full swing.
